Karun Nair scored a century for Karnataka in his just his second match back with the team, during the Ranji Trophy encounter against Goa in Shivamogga on Sunday.

The three-figure mark was Karun’s 25th in First Class cricket and comes after the middle-order batter’s omission from the Indian Test squad for the recently concluded two-match Test series against West Indies.

The Karnataka batter had scored 73 and 8 in the two innings against Saurashtra, following his move back to the side from Vidarbha.

Against Goa, he converted the start into a hundred, forging a 117-run partnership with Shreyas Gopal for the sixth wicket following four early wickets in the first innings.

Karun had middling returns in India’s Test series away at England, where he batted both at No.3 and in the middle order. His highest score across eight innings was the 53 he managed at The Oval. He currently has 579 runs in 10 Tests with an average of 41.35, which includes a triple hundred against England in 2016.
