The Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation (KCIRI) has developed an indigenous technology to maintain, repair, and overhaul the ‘Anti-Collision Lamp Power Supply Unit’ of the Dornier aircraft and supplied it to the Base Repair Depot (BRD) of the Indian Air Force at Sulur, Coimbatore.

V.M. Doss, director of the Centre, told The Hindu that the acceptance of the technology by the BRD has thrown open global opportunities. Even in India, the Dornier aircraft is used by the Navy, the Coast Guard, and the Air Force. The system in use now is imported.

The Base Repair Depot (BRD), Indian Air Force, Sulur, entrusted KCT with the task to indigenise the repair-and-overhaul technology and develop a customised tester. In March 2025, the BRD handed over a PSU to the KCIRI. The team from Kumaraguru designed and built from scratch a state-of-the-art, PLC and touch-screen HMI-based tester in seven-eight months tailored to the requirements of the Indian Air Force. The product is designed and developed by the KCIRI and it is assembled and made by the MSME units in Coimbatore.

Recently, the tester was handed over to the BRD. More such opportunities are in the pipeline, he added.
