Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has been released from Spain’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Georgia and Turkey, the Spanish federation (RFEF) announced on Tuesday.
It revealed that the teenager underwent an ‘invasive radiofrequency procedure’ to treat a pubic discomfort on Monday, the start of the national team training camp.
“The procedure was carried out without prior communication to the medical staff of the Selection, who only became aware of its details through a report received at 22:40 hours last night, which indicates the medical recommendation of rest for 7-10 days,” read the statement.
“Given this situation, and always prioritising the health, safety, and well-being of the player, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to release the athlete from this call-up.”

A groin problem kept Yamal sidelined for Spain’s games against Georgia and Bulgaria in October.
Spain is currently leading Group D of the UEFA qualifiers and is slated to face Georgia on November 15 before taking on Turkey on November 18.
Automatic qualification for next year’s World Cup is in its grasp with La Roja needing four points from the two matches remaining.
