Leprosy cases detection camps to be held till February 28

As part of the 14-day Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) 2025, leprosy case detection camps are being held in 10 taluks and within the Corporation limits until February 28.
Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara, in a release, stated that both the Central and State governments are working towards leprosy elimination by 2027. Therefore, the campaign to identify leprosy cases is being implemented within the community. The release mentioned that 1,514 frontline staff and 151 supervisors are involved in screening both men and women in their homes. Persons suspected of having leprosy will be identified and treated. The release also urged people to cooperate with the staff.
Individuals exhibiting hypopigmented skin patches with loss of sensation, inability to close their eyes, ear lobe thickening and nodules, weakness in hands and feet, clawing of fingers and toes, muscle wasting in hands and feet, inability to hold objects, numbness in hands and feet, or non-healing ulcers in hands and feet should report their symptoms to health workers for further evaluation and treatment.
The release further stated that treatment is available at Government Hospitals, Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai, and Government Primary Health Centres. Treatment duration varies from six months to one year. The public is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to help ensure no new cases emerge in the district.
