The State government has issued an order reassigning Madanayakanahalli and Rajanakunte police stations from the Bengaluru Rural district jurisdiction to the Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate on Thursday.

This comes months after three police stations – Hebbagodi, Avalahalli, and Kumbalagodu – from neighbouring districts were added to the commissionerate in June 2025. With the inclusion of two more police stations, the total number of Law and Order police stations in the commissionerate has gone up to 117.

The city has also seen the creation of three new divisions – North West, South West, and Electronics City – taking the total number of police divisions in the commissionerate to 11 in July 2025.

Population, development and crimes

According to the proposal submitted by the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police, the jurisdictions of the Madanayakanahalli and Rajanukunte police stations already fall under the Bengaluru Urban Revenue District and have witnessed rapid urbanisation, with population and development levels on par with Bengaluru City.

The proposal highlights a surge in criminal cases and traffic congestion in these areas, necessitating closer policing under the city unit.

Acting on the recommendation, the government has approved the exclusion of Madanayakanahalli and Rajanukunte police stations from Nelamangala and Doddaballapura sub-divisions of the Bengaluru Rural district.

They will now function under the North West Division of the Bengaluru City Police.
