Madonna slams Trump administration for rolling back freedoms

Pop icon Madonna is taking a stand against the Trump administration’s latest executive orders, calling out policies that she says undermine hard-won freedoms, particularly for the LGBTQ community.

The singer voiced her concerns on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, responding to President Trump’s reinstatement of a policy barring transgender individuals from enlisting and serving openly in the U.S. military. The controversial executive order, titled “Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness,” reverses a 2021 directive by Joe Biden that had allowed trans service members to serve without restrictions.

Madonna has long been an advocate for queer rights, dating back to the 1980s when she spoke out against discrimination during the HIV/AIDS crisis. Her activism earned her the Advocate for Change Award at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards in 2019.

GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis also condemned the order, stating, “Transgender people are already serving in the military with honor and keeping our country and military safer and stronger… Targeting service members because of who they are is blatantly discriminatory and makes our country less safe.”

Madonna joins a growing number of celebrities speaking out against Trump’s policy rollbacks, with stars like Selena Gomez also publicly expressing their distress over the administration’s actions.
