A man attempted self-immolation at the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, alleging that a private bus driver had threatened to sexually assault his minor daughter.

According to the police, the individual, identified as Murugan from Thalimangalam in Madurai district, currently resides in Kavundampalayam, Coimbatore, with his wife and nine-year-old daughter. Employed as a driver, Murugan claimed that a private bus driver from Anaikatti had issued threats against his daughter, prompting him to approach the police seeking action.

At the Commissioner’s office, he attempted to set himself ablaze. Police personnel on duty intervened swiftly and prevented the act. The police have initiated an investigation based on his allegation.
