Man held on charge of alleged murder

The Nedumbassery police on Wednesday (December 3, 2025) arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly murdering his mother.

Binu P.R., a resident of Chovvara near Aluva and a native of Rajakumari in Idukki, was arrested three days after the death of his mother, Anitha, 58. She was declared dead at a hospital after he took her there with head injuries. He told the police that she had reportedly collapsed on the house premises and hit her head on a stone used for washing laundry.

The police grew suspicious after the post-mortem revealed severe injuries to the woman’s head and internal organs. According to the police, the accused had brutally assaulted her, leading to her death.

The police said a long-standing property dispute over 1.5 acres of land in Idukki, owned by the victim, had led to the murder. Anitha, who had been staying at a care home in Idukki for 22 years, was brought home by her son in September. The accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
