A 64-year-old retired Army man was critically injured in a fire accident that was caused by an LPG cylinder leak at his residence in Andrahalli, Bengaluru, on Saturday.

The injured, identified as Janardhan K.C., a native of Madikeri, was working at a private company and living alone following the death of his wife.

According to the police, Janardhan woke up early and attempted to light the stove to prepare tea when the gas, suspected to have leaked overnight, ignited.

The kitchen reportedly lacked ventilation, which allowed the gas to accumulate, triggering an explosion that left him severely burnt.

Neighbours alerted the authorities.

The police said that some parts of the house were damaged in the explosion. Janardhan was shifted to Victoria Hospital.

The Peenya police have registered a case and started investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
