Modi in Udupi: Massive crowds greet PM at roadshow ahead of Gita recital event at Sri Krishna Mutt

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (November 28) held a roadshow in Udupi ahead of the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme. People gathered in large numbers on either sides of the streets to greet the Prime Minister, waving tricolours. This is PM Modi’s first visit to the city.

At the Sri Krishna Mutt, PM Modi will participate in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme, a devotional gathering of about 1,00,000 participants, including students, monks, scholars, and citizens from various walks of life, who will recite the Bhagavad Gita in unison. The programme has been organised by Sri Krishna Mutt and Paryaya Putthige Mutt.

Earlier in the day Mr. Modi Mr. arrived at Mangaluru International Airport from where he flew to Udupi in a helicopter, before heading to the Mutt. Along the way, he held a roadshow from Bannanje Narayana Guru Circle to Kalsanka.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Suvarna Tirtha Mantapa, located in front of the Krishna sanctum, and dedicate the Kanaka Kavacha (golden cover) for the sacred Kanakana Kindi, a sacred window through which the saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had the divine darshan of Bhagwan Krishna.

Later, he will travel to Goa, where at around 3:15 p.m., he will visit Sri Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Mutt on the occasion of ‘Sardha Panchashatamanotsava’, the 550th-year celebration of the mutt.

Sri Krishna Mutt was established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhwacharya, the founder of the Dvaita philosophy of Vedanta.

According to the senior pontiff of Putthige Mutt and Paryaya seer Sugunendra Tirtha, earlier Mr. Modi had visited Sri Krishna Mutt during Sugunendra Tirtha’s previous paryaya term when Mr. Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Ahead of his visit, the PM took to X to express his honour at being invited to the event.
