Mumbai’s big cash polls
BMC, Asia’s richest city corporation, is expected to hold its much-delayed municipal elections soon. The elections were due in March 2022. Mumbai – its crumbling infra, increasing pollution and deep inequalities – is heavily dependent on elected corporators. They play a vital role linking citizens, especially in working-class localities, with local govt, raising hyper-local issues and improving access to basic amenities.
