Teachers working in municipal schools in the State have requested for the establishment of a dedicated municipal division in the School Education Department and appointment of officers to address their specific issues.
A delegation of the Municipal Teachers’ Federation (MTF), led by its State president Y. S. Ramakrishna and State executive member T.L.S.N. Murthy, met Commissioner of School Education V. Vijay Rama Raju at Vidya Bhavan in Tadepalli on January 29 and urged him to look into their issues.
They proposed upgradation of 164 Municipal Upper Primary Schools to High Schools, irrespective of the number of students and their distance, and merger of elementary schools located on the same premises as high schools with nearby elementary schools. They wanted the authorities to provide the facility of General Provident Fund (GPF) to all municipal teachers and to authorise headmasters to manage the salaries of teachers working in elementary schools within the jurisdiction of the municipal school complex.
They requested that transfers of municipal teachers be conducted as per G.O. 506 and G.O. 507 and to provide the Mandal Education Officer and Deputy Education Officer posts to headmasters working in municipal schools.
They also wanted upgradation of primary schools with 400 students to high schools and establishment of 1,100 new municipal primary schools in urban slum areas, besides upgradation of 64 Language Pundit posts, and pay protection for Telugu and Hindi Pandits whose pay was reverted.
The Commissioner assured them to look into their issues.
