OnePlus 15R Teased At Launch Event; Expected To Hit India In December

Just a day after launching the OnePlus 15 in India, the country’s first smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, OnePlus has already shifted attention to what’s coming next. At the launch event, the company briefly teased the OnePlus 15R, hinting at a more affordable companion to the new flagship. While OnePlus hasn’t officially revealed details, industry patterns make it fairly clear what to expect.
Traditionally, OnePlus’ “R” series smartphones debut globally as rebranded versions of the OnePlus Ace lineup from China. This was the case with the OnePlus 11R and 13R, and the same formula is expected this year. The OnePlus Ace 6, launched alongside the OnePlus 15 in China, is widely believed to form the base of the upcoming OnePlus 15R. The Ace 6 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a common theme in the R-series, where OnePlus pairs the previous-generation flagship processor with well-balanced hardware to hit an attractive price point.

Display and Design: Bigger, Brighter, and Faster
If the global variant follows the Ace 6 specifications, the OnePlus 15R will feature a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, stepping up from the 6.77-inch panel on the 13R. The screen reportedly reaches a massive 5,000 nits peak brightness, making it one of the brightest displays in its class. The refresh rate remains an impressive 165Hz, matching the flagship OnePlus 15.
Design-wise, the 15R is expected to adopt a cleaner, more compact camera module similar to the OnePlus 13s, moving away from the larger camera island seen on earlier R-series models.
Performance and Hardware: Faster Chip, More RAM, Bigger Storage
Under the hood, the OnePlus 15R is expected to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and a generous 1TB UFS 4.1 storage option. A dedicated G2 gaming chip is also part of the package to enhance frame stability, graphics rendering, and sustained performance during long gaming sessions.
Durability takes a major leap this year, with the phone likely to carry four IP ratings: IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K, making it resistant to dust, deep water immersion, and even high-pressure steam jets. The handset will also include the new Plus Key, offering quick shortcuts for camera, flashlight, or OnePlus’ Plus Mind AI hub.
Battery and Charging: The Biggest Upgrade Yet
OnePlus appears to be pushing boundaries with battery tech this year. The 15R is expected to feature a massive 7,800mAh battery, the largest on any mainstream smartphone to date. It will support 120W fast charging, although wireless charging is still missing, consistent with previous R-series devices.

Cameras: Small Downgrade, but Good Enough?
Camera hardware includes a 50MP main sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. Selfies will be handled by a 16MP front shooter. The notable omission is the telephoto lens, which was available on the 13R. OnePlus seems to be reserving zoom capabilities exclusively for its flagship models this year.
Expected Price in India
If OnePlus maintains last year’s pricing strategy, the OnePlus 15R could launch around Rs 42,999, making it a strong contender in the premium mid-range segment. With a massive battery, brighter display, improved durability, and top-tier performance, the 15R has the potential to be one of OnePlus’ most balanced devices yet.
As we await official confirmation, one thing is clear, the OnePlus 15R is shaping up to be a compelling alternative for users who want flagship-level power without the flagship price.
