Pakistan Shaheens wins Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025, beats Bangladesh in Super Over thriller
Pakistan Shaheens beat Bangladesh A in a thrilling final, which spilled over to a Super Over, to lift its third Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025 title at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Sunday.
Bangladesh was denied a maiden title once more by the Shaheens, in a repeat of proceedings from the 2019 edition.
After being asked to bat, Pakistan Shaheens managed to put 125 on the board in 20 overs, powered by a 26-ball 38 by Saad Masood.
Pacer Ripon Mondol struck late to finish as the pick of the bowler with three wickets in her four-over spell, conceding 25 runs. Rakibul Hasan’s left-arm spin also came in handy, with the bowler picking up two wickets for just 16 runs in his four overs.
Defending an ordinary score, Pakistan was in the driver’s seat till the 10th over, reducing Bangladesh A to 53/7 at one stage, with the spin quartet of Arafat Minhas, Masood, Maaz Sadaqat and Sufiyan Muqeem inflicting most of the damage. However, a late resistance staged by Rakibul Hasan and SM Meherob proved crucial. ‘
Abdul Gaffar Saqlain nd Mondol then slammed 20 runs in the 19th over to bring a herculean ask to just seven needed off the last six balls, managing to then drag the game into the Super Over.
Bangladesh A managed just six runs in the three balls it faced in the Super Over before getting all out. Masood and Sadaqat then took the Shaheens home with two balls to spare.
Maaz Sadaqat was named player of the series as ACC chair Mohsin Naqvi handed over the trophy and winners’ medals to the Shaheens.
