Pakistan beat Kuwait by 43 runs in the final of the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 cricket tournament at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok on Sunday.
Pakistan posted an imposing 135 for three in six overs, thanks to opener Abdul Samad’s 13-ball 42 and skipper Abbas Afridi’s blistering 52 off 11 balls. In reply, Kuwait was restricted to 92 in 5.1 overs, with left-arm spinner Maaz Sadaqat picking three wickets.
Pakistan had also opened its campaign with a four-wicket win over Kuwait. It suffered a minor setback in its following match as it lost to archrival India by two runs via the DLS method. From there on, Pakistan beat South Africa by five wickets in the quarterfinal, and edged Australia by one run in the semis to reach the final.
This was Pakistan’s sixth title win at the Hong Kong Sixes competition.
Kuwait also had a stellar tournament, as it beat India, Afghanistan and England on its way to the summit clash.
India, on the other hand, endured a horror campaign. After beating Pakistan by two runs in its tournament opener, India lost to Kuwait, the UAE, Nepal and Sri Lanka consecutively.
Former India fast bowler Abhimanyu Mithun topped the run charts for the Dinesh Karthik-led team, scoring 87 runs in four innings, while all-rounder Stuart Binny was the leading wicket-taker, with three scalps.
