Jammu and Kashmir’s iconic cricketer, Parvez Rasool, announced his retirement from the sport on Monday (October 20, 2025), over a decade after he became the first player from the State to wear the Indian colours.

Rasool played one ODI for India, against Bangladesh in June 2014, and one T20I against England in January 2017.

In a post on social media, Rasool said: “It’s been an incredible journey one filled with dreams, hard work, joy, and countless memories that I will cherish forever. From local grounds to representing my team and my country, In cricket Allah has given me everything I ever wished for. Thankful to my family, coaches, teammates, and fans for their love, trust, and constant support throughout this journey. Every moment I’ve spent on the field has been an honour and a blessing.”

He said that though he was stepping away from professional cricket, he would continue to “play for passion” and guide youngsters. He thanked the Jammu and Kashmir government for supporting him.

Rasool was first added to the Indian squad for the Zimbabwe ODI series in 2013, bringing much cheer to the State. But his omission from the playing XI drew much criticism. He would eventually represent India the following year.

He made his IPL debut in 2013 with the now-defunct Pune Warriors. He called it the ‘proudest day’ of his life. He also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad for two years after that.

On 3 October 2018, Rasool became first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to play 100 List-A matches.
