Police nab member of Himanshu Bhau gang after exchange of fire
The Delhi police on Thursday arrested a member of the Himanshu Bhau gang following an exchange of fire, resulting in injury to the latter’s leg. A constable narrowly escaped injury after one bullet hit him during the exchange of fire. Thanks to a bulletproof jacket he wore.
The suspect, Ankit, 25, a resident of Sonipat, Haryana, was carrying a reward of ₹25,000.
He was allegedly involved in a shootout where a member of another gang, Rohit Lamba, was targeted in Najafgarh by four persons on October 28, 2025 and fled the scene.
The police began probing the incident last month and registered a case under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. The police had also arrested four suspects in the case, while two shooters were absconding. After interrogating the arrested persons, those absconding were identified as Ankit and Deepak. Delhi police had placed a reward of ₹25,000 for each of their arrest.
On Thursday, the team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, Dwarka received information that Ankit was spotted near the Sai Baba temple in Najafgarh. The police then laid a trap near the bus stand at UER-II, near the temple. At around 8 a.m., Ankit came on a bike, and when police tried to apprehend him, he tried to escape. He fired three rounds at the police, one bullet hitting constable Kuldeep, and was injured in retaliatory firing by the police.
According to police, he had previously been involved in many cases. In 2020, he fired upon a member of the CIA, Bahadurgarh and injured one constable .Active since 2020, Himanshu Bhau gang has been involved in cases of murder, kidnapping and extortion.
