Police in Anantapur have deployed drones to monitor deserted stretches and vulnerable spots to prevent crimes against women.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh said that the initiative aims to stop incidents of eve‑teasing, harassment, and other offences.

The Bukkarayasamudram police led special Shakti Teams in carrying out aerial surveillance over sensitive locations. Drones were flown over isolated farmlands, open grounds, parks, and other vulnerable spots on the city outskirts.

“With drone monitoring, we can cover wide areas in real time and alert ground teams instantly,” SP Jagadeesh said. Our priority is to ensure that women feel safe while travelling or passing through these regions. Anyone caught harassing or attempting to harm women will face strict action, he added.

The SP said that the police teams have identified some vulnerable hotspots known for anti-social activities, and the drone surveillance would be stepped up at these targeted places.

He said that the move mustered overwhelming support from the villagers, particularly women. “These initiatives have started enhancing the trust of the public in the police and made women feel secure,” he added.
