Private hospital in Chennai launches breast cancer awareness programme

To raise awareness on breast cancer, Apollo Cancer Centre and Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, Chennai, have launched ‘Check-Olate’ — a dark chocolate bar — as a reminder for women to perform regular breast self-examination. Each bar features a QR code that, when scanned, opens an animated video demonstrating the steps. Apollo hosted a panel discussion on breast cancer awareness, moderated by Rathna Devi, senior consultant, Radiation Oncology. The discussion featured Madhupriya R.G.S, senior consultant, surgical oncology; Manjula Rao, consultant, breast oncoplastic surgery, and Asha Reddy, consultant, breast surgery. MasterChef India – Tamil Season 1 winner Devaki Vijayaraman joined the event and unveiled a 1.5-ft dark chocolate wall. Karan Puri, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre and Apollo Cancer Centre, Chennai, said the initiative reinforces the importance of early detection and proactive care.
