Rachakonda police seize 300 kg marijuana hidden in truck carrying scrap

A 300 kilograms of marijuana consignment was intercepted by the Special Operations Teams (SOT) of Maheshwaram, along with the Abdullapurmet police on Thursday. Officials nabbed the smuggler, who was reportedly earning ₹3 lakh per trip, transporting the drug from Visakhapatnam in AP to Pune, Maharashtra.

Commissioner of Rachakonda police G. Sudheer Babu said that Ahmed Gulab Shaik, 56, a resident of Rupi Nagar in Pune, was tasked with smuggling the drugs across the States. “He has delivered similar consignments twice in the past,” said the officer, adding that his supplier, Bujji Babu from Vizag, is currently at large.

“Gulab Shaik was working as a driver in Pune but resorted to drug smuggling to make easy money. He came in contact with Vaibhav and Deva, both residents of Pune, who are drug peddlers. He agreed to transport drugs across borders for ₹3 lakh per consignment,” explained the Commissioner.

After receiving the order, Vaibhav and Deva would sell the drugs to their agents in Pune.

“As per the instructions of Vaibhav and Deva, Gulab Shaik went to Visakhapatnam and collected 300 kilograms of marijuana in 138 packets from Bujji Babu. He concealed the drugs in a container along with a plastic scrap load in his truck to avoid getting caught by police during checking and started to Pune, Maharashtra via Hyderabad,” said the officer.

On Thursday, based on a tipoff, the SOT officers and the Abdullapurmet police nabbed him at around 1.30 a.m. near Ramoji Film City. “A special team consisting of SOT and Abdullapurmet police has been formed to apprehend the remaining accused persons,” concluded the Commissioner.
