A Railway Protection Force (RPF) sub-inspector at the Salem railway junction saved the life of an elderly passenger who slipped while attempting to board a moving train on Tuesday (December 2, 2025).

The incident occurred at 12.05 a.m. on platform number 4 when P. Jayamani, 77, of Teynampet in Chennai, tried to board Train No. 12623 Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Superfast Express. Jayamani, who was travelling from Chennai to Kottayam, had alighted to buy a water bottle and attempted to board the train again as it began to move. He slipped and became trapped between the platform and the moving train.

Sub-Inspector N. Palani of the RPF, who was on duty at the station, rushed to his aid and pulled him to safety. Authorities said the swift action of the officer averted a potentially fatal mishap.
