Saibaba’s message is ‘guiding spirit’ for society, says President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday (November 22) highlighted the enduring global impact of Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s philosophy of service, describing his life and teachings as a ‘guiding spirit’ for society.

Addressing a special programme at Prasanthi Nilayam as part of Sai Baba’s centenary celebrations, the President said Baba’s motto, service to mankind is service to God, continues to inspire millions of devotees who extend humanitarian services to the underprivileged across the world.

President Murmu observed that the Centre is committed to improving people’s lives through skill development and inclusive growth, and stressed the need for collective participation from spiritual and social organisations in nation-building. She said the Sathya Sai Trust, established in 1969, has consistently worked to uplift women through various welfare initiatives.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that world peace could become a reality when individuals and nations embody Sai Baba’s principles of “Love All–Serve All and Help Ever–Hurt Never”, along with the five core values of “Satya, Dharma, Shanti, Prema, and Ahimsa”.

Recalling his close association with Sai Baba, Mr. Naidu said the spiritual leader was willing to mortgage Prasanthi Nilayam to resolve the drinking water crisis in Rayalaseema, an audacious move that prompted devotees to fund the massive water project, which now benefits regions across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister launched the Sri Sathya Sai Tribal Women Health Care Programme, designed to provide both preventive and curative healthcare to tribal women. The initiative includes telemedicine-based multispecialty services, screening for anaemia, breast and cervical cancer, and the provision of safe drinking water. Calling tribal women the “conscience keepers of our cultivation,” he said, calling for the need to empower them economically.

Terming the new health programme a nation-building effort, the Chief Minister urged citizens to act as ambassadors of peace and carry forward Sai Baba’s message to achieve universal harmony and happiness.

Sri Sathya Sai Trust managing trustee R. Ratnakar welcomed the dignitaries, while All India Seva Dal president Nimish Pandey also addressed the gathering.

Earlier, the President was accorded a warm reception at Puttaparthi airport by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Minister Nara Lokesh, and members of the Sathya Sai Trust. She later visited Sai Kulwant Hall, offered prayers at Sai Baba’s Maha Samadhi, and lit the Universal Torch of Peace to mark the occasion.
