Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty entered the semifinals of the Singapore Open on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

They defeated Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin 21-17, 21-15 in a match that lasted 39 minutes.

The Indians have so far stumbled in the semifinal stage twice on the BWF Tour this season – at the India Open and the Malaysia Open. It was the Malaysian pair of Goh and Izzuddin which had ousted Satwik-Chirag at the India Open.

Satwik and Chirag will be hoping to make their maiden final of the season when they face another Malaysian pair in either Man Wei Chong-Kai Wun Tee or Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik. Both are seeded pairs in the tournament.

The doubles duo is the only Indian representation in the tournament after the likes of PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand exited among others.
