SECM CEO calls for speedy implementation of energy efficiency and conservation programmes
Managing Director of AP-Genco and CEO of AP State Energy Conservation Mission (AP-SECM) S. Nagalakshmi directed the officials to expedite implementation of the ongoing energy efficiency (EE) and conservation programs across the State.
She emphasized that EE was a crucial pillar of the State’s energy transition strategy and instructed the team to focus on achieving tangible outcomes under key sectors such as buildings, industry, municipalities, agriculture, and transport with the support of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
Chairing a review meeting on the activities of SECM on Friday (November 07), Ms. Nagalakshmi told the officials to ensure that all initiatives were aligned with the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan and the Energy Conservation and Energy Efficiency Policy 2023–28, with focus on effective monitoring and verification of savings.
She called for strict compliance with the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) in all the Urban Local Bodies covering both government and private buildings, and suggested that the ECBC should be integrated with the building approval system and the enforcement mechanism strengthened.
Drawing attention to the Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) program, Ms. Nagalakshmi instructed the SECM to work closely with industrial clusters to promote efficient technologies and to facilitate the transition towards carbon credit trading. Also, she underscored the importance of sustained engagement with industries to ensure measurable improvements in energy performance and competitiveness.
Further, Ms. Nagalakshmi told the officials to continue extending technical and financial support to MSMEs for adopting energy-efficient equipment and processes, and to promote the usage of star-rated appliances under the Standards & Labelling (S&L) programme.
Taking stock of the agriculture and municipal demand-side management (DSM) programs, the CEO told the officials to expand the initiatives taken under them to more local bodies and to impart necessary training to the municipal staff, farmers, and pump operators.
