India Test captain Shubman Gill has responded well to treatment and will travel to Guwahati with the team today. He will stay under the care of the BCCI medical staff, who will decide on his availability for the second Test, starting November 22, after further assessment.
Gill was taken to the hospital after the second day of the Kolkata Test, a day after he retired hurt having faced only three balls in India’s first innings. The BCCI announced on the morning of the third day that he would take no further part in the match.
He had also missed a Test against New Zealand in October 2024 because of a neck spasm.
Gill has been on an unbroken run of cricket across formats since IPL 2025 and was one of four Test players who travelled to Kolkata directly from Australia after the T20I series.
