JAMMU: Two brothers from Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district died when a truck plunged into a gorge in Ramban district late Thursday.
The deceased siblings were identified as Yasir Imtiyaz Khan and Danish Imtiyaz Khan from Chijhama in Baramulla’s Rafiabad district.
Police on Friday said the accident occurred near Monkey Morh Battery-Chashma along the national highway around 11.30pm when the truck, loaded with iron bars, was heading from Jammu towards Srinagar, police said.
On receiving information, a joint team of police, SDRF, traffic personnel and Ramban civil Quick Response Team launched a rescue operation. However, due to the steep slope and dangerous terrain, the operation was suspended till morning.
The operation resumed Friday morning. The bodies of the dead siblings were retrieved from the wreckage and sent to Ramban district hospital for autopsy, cops said.
