Stray cattle ‘kills’ car mechanic

The Tirunelveli Corporation’s miserable failure to act tough against stray cattle and the owners has cost the life of a car mechanic.

Police said R. Ganesan, 55, of Thatchanallur was returning home on his bike after work on Friday night. When he was crossing Manimurtheeswaram intersection, a stray cattle loitering along the highway, suddenly crossed the road and hit the bike.

As Ganesan was thrown on the road, he suffered head injury. After being admitted to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, he died in the small hours of Saturday.

Tirunelveli Traffic Wing police, who have registered a case in this connection, said the Corporation should act tough against the stray cattle and the owners as none shows any respect for the urban civic body’s ‘empty warnings’ of slapping ₹5,000 fine.
