Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday (November 13, 2025) laid the foundation from the Secretariat in Chennai for 12 new Thozhi working women’s hostels across the State at a cost of ₹62.51 crore, which will benefit 740 working women.
According to a press release, the Chief Minister laid the foundation for new Thozhi working women’s hostels to be established in Tirupathur, Namakkal, Mayiladuthurai, Virudhunagar, Dindigul, the Nilgiris, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, and Kanniyakumari districts.
So far, 19 Thozhi hostels equipped with state-of-the-art facilities have been established in 15 districts, benefiting 1,824 working women. Construction is under way for 14 more hostels at a total cost of ₹176.93 crore, which will accommodate 2,000 working women, the release said.
Mr. Stalin also laid the foundation for new buildings at government-run juvenile homes in Coimbatore and Tiruchi at a cost of ₹27.90 crore and inaugurated a new building at the Government Children’s Home in Royapuram at a cost of ₹7 crore.
The Chief Minister handed over appointment orders to candidates selected through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and the Medical Services Recruitment Board for 196 Assistant and 18 Block Health Statistician posts, and 19 Skilled Assistant Grade II posts.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Mr. Stalin between the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department and SCM Garments Pvt. Ltd. (The Chennai Silks Group) for setting up an apparel manufacturing unit in Tiruvarur district with an investment of ₹50 crore, which is expected to generate employment for 2,500 people. Mr. Stalin also inaugurated the renovated building of the Kancheepuram Arignar Anna Silk Cooperative Society at a cost of ₹3 crore.
