The Tamil Nadu Commission for Women has recommended the Greater Chennai Police to initiate criminal proceedings against celebrity chef and actor Madhampatty Rangaraj, following inquiry based on a complaint filed by costume designer Joy Crizildaa.

The Commission’s Chairperson, A.S. Kumari, on Tuesday (November 4, 2025), forwarded the recommendation to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Against Women and Children, Greater Chennai City Police.

Joy Crizildaa, a popular costume designer in Tamil cinema, had lodged a complaint against Rangaraj in August, shortly after publicly announcing their marriage and her pregnancy on social media. In her complaint, she accused Rangaraj of abandoning her after cohabiting and alleged that he had deceived her by concealing his existing marriage.

Rangaraj, who rose to fame as a chef before turning an actor and television personality, is married and has two children. His alleged relationship with Joy Crizildaa has been the subject of public controversy for over a year.
