Tamil actor Abhinay, best known for his performance in Kasthuri Raja’s 2002 coming-of-age hit Thulluvadho Ilamai, passed away in Chennai early on Monday, November 10, at the age of 44. The actor had reportedly been undergoing treatment for a severe liver ailment for several months before his death.

According to a statement released by his team, Abhinay died at 4 AM at his rented residence in Rangarajapuram, Kodambakkam. The actor had been living alone and had no surviving family or relatives. His team confirmed that they have reached out to the Nadigar Sangam to help with the arrangements for his final rites.

“Abhinay had been struggling with liver-related complications for quite some time and was under continuous medical care,” the statement noted. “He lived alone after the passing of his mother and had recently sought financial support for his treatment.”

Initially, the landlord of his rented residence reportedly refused to allow his body to be kept there, but the situation was resolved after the intervention of local officials and members of the film fraternity, including Tamil Nadu Housing Board chairman Poochi Murugan and actor Vijay Muthu. The actor’s body has since been placed at his residence for fans and friends to pay their respects.

Abhinay, who began his career alongside Dhanush and Sherin in Thulluvadho Ilamai, went on to appear in Jjunction (2002), Singara Chennai (2004), and Pon Megalai (2005). He later transitioned to supporting roles and voice work, notably dubbing for actor Vidyut Jammwal in Thuppakki (2012) and Anjaan (2014).
