Telangana | Social Justice Forum demands 42% reservations for BCs in local body elections

The Social Justice Forum has urged Telangana government to fulfil its promise of providing 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections. The forum also warned of launching a statewide agitation to press for action to implement the Kamareddy Declaration.
Addressing a meeting held in Kacheguda, Hyderabad on Thursday (January 2, 2025), national coordinator of the Forum and former chairman of the State BC Commission, Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao emphasised the importance of implementing the Kamareddy BC Declaration made by the Congress before the State Assembly elections 2023. He called on the government to take concrete steps in the new year to demonstrate its commitment to BC welfare. He also criticised the existing creamy layer policy, stating that it obstructs equitable access to education and employment opportunities for BCs, and demanded its immediate abolition.
Key resolutions adopted at the meeting included organizing grassroots-level awareness campaigns and leveraging social media platforms to amplify the issues. Mr. Rao stressed the need for innovative and sustained efforts to achieve social justice for BCs. He accused the State government of neglecting its promises to BCs, particularly those outlined in the Kamareddy BC Declaration, and urged immediate action to address these long-standing demands.
The resolutions focused on mobilising public support through various strategies. Grassroots awareness campaigns were proposed to educate people at the village, mandal, and district levels about the promises made to BCs by the government. Social media platforms will be utilised to highlight the issues and garner widespread attention. Additionally, speakers will be identified to deliver impactful lectures during meetings, protests, and demonstrations.
