Three men get 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for smuggling ganja

A special court for the exclusive trial of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act cases has convicted and sentenced three men to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for smuggling over 320 kg of ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Chennai in 2021. A fine of ₹3 lakh was also imposed on them.

The convicted were identified as Dubash Shankar alias Shankar, M. Sreenath, and Sebastin alias Michael Ratan alias Sada. They were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Chennai Zonal Unit at Uthukottai in the Tiruvallur district in July 2021.

The officers arrested the trio and seized 327.87 kg of ganja and the truck that was used for trafficking the contraband. They smuggled in the ganja from Andhra Pradesh and supplied it to areas in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
