Several members of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) Joint Trade Union Federation staged a protest outside the TNCSC zonal office in Tiruvarur on Monday, opposing the outsourcing of loadmen work and demanding immediate resolution of long-pending grievances.

Protesters said outsourcing would displace experienced loadmen and urged the withdrawal of tenders floated for contract-based loading operations in godowns, rice mills, and storage centres. They demanded restoration of the earlier system of directly engaging load workers and called for timely wage payments without arbitrary deductions under the pretext of recovery.

The unions pressed for the reopening of all open storage points and immediate procurement of materials like timber and stone to facilitate the movement of paddy sacks, which remain stagnant in procurement centres.

Demands included regularisation of listed procurement workers, with unions pointing out that many have been waiting over two years without confirmation.

The protest saw participation from several trade unions, including INTUC, LPF, AITUC, and CITU.
