At least nine people crushed to death at Kasibugga temple in A.P.’s Srikakulam district

At least nine persons including a boy were killed reportedly after they fell down from a six-feet-high wall when they attempted to escape from rush after an iron railing was damaged inside Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Kasibugga town in Srikakulam on Saturday (November 1, 2025). “A case has been registered against the temple owner, Hari Mukunda Panda, under various sections under culpable homicide,” Srikakulam Superintendent of Police said.

Kerala declared free from extreme poverty, first State to do so

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared the State as free from extreme poverty at a special session of the Assembly on the occasion of ‘Kerala Piravi’ on Saturday (November 1, 2025), making it the first Indian State to make such a declaration. Refuting the Opposition allegations that the declaration was a publicity stunt, CM Vijayan said that the implementation of the Extreme Poverty Alleviation Project (EPEP) was a decision taken in the first Cabinet meeting of the current Left Democratic Front (LDF) in 2021.

Dular Chand Yadav died due to cardiorespiratory failure: post-mortem report

Gangster-turned-politician Dular Chand Yadav died of cardiorespiratory failure owing to shock caused by injury to the heart and lungs, according to his post-mortem report. Yadav died while he was campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party’s candidate Piyush Priyadarshi in Patna’s Mokama area on Thursday (October 27, 2025). The report also mentioned that Yadav was shot near the ankle joint, but the bullet was not the cause of his death.

Sabarimala temple artefacts case: Kerala High Court-appointed SIT makes third arrest

The Kerala High Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiring into the misappropriation of gold-plated copper moulds covering the stone carvings and sculptures at the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple recorded the third arrest in the sensational case on Saturday (November 1, 2025). Officials identified the suspect as D. Sudheesh Kumar, a former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) executive officer who served at the temple in 2019.

Delhi’s winter atmosphere is climatologically unsuitable for consistent cloud seeding due to a fundamental lack of sufficient moisture and saturation, particularly during the peak pollution months of December and January, according to an IIT Delhi report. The report comes against the backdrop of the Delhi government conducting two cloud-seeding trials in Burari, north Karol Bagh and Mayur Vihar in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, but there was no rain. 

GST collections rise 4.6% to ₹1.96 lakh crore in October

Gross GST collection increased 4.6% to about ₹1.96 lakh crore in October driven by festive buying spree despite a cut in GST rates. Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on 375 items, including kitchen staples to electronics and automobiles, were slashed with effect from September 22 — the first day of Navratri and considered auspicious for buying new goods.

Rohan Bopanna announces retirement from professional tennis spanning over two decades

Two-time Grand Slam champion Rohan Bopanna, among India’s most accomplished tennis players, announced his retirement on Saturday (November 1, 2025). “After 20 unforgettable years on tour however, it’s time… I’m officially hanging up my racquet,” Bopanna stated on his Instagram account. Bopanna, 45, achieved great heights as a doubles player. He rose to the world number one spot in doubles last year, becoming the fourth Indian after Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza to reach the summit.

United Nations officials said the rampage through the Darfur city of el-Fasher has reportedly killed more than 450 people in a hospital.
