It was a night of contrasting emotions in Lucknow as the Sunrisers Hyderabad handed the Lucknow Super Giants a crushing 6-wicket defeat, knocking it out of the IPL 2025 playoff race.
“This was our most complete performance with the bat this season. I’m incredibly satisfied with the intent, execution, and composure,” said head coach Daniel Vettori in the post match press conference.
“Abhishek gave us the perfect start, but the calm finishing from the other batters who understood their roles well was equally crucial,” he added.
Openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram set the tone early with fiery fifties, while Nicholas Pooran chipped in with a vital 45. But LSG’s innings was marred by another failure from skipper Rishabh Pant, who managed just seven runs in a do-or-die game.
The chase belonged to SRH, with Abhishek Sharma lighting up the night with a 20-ball 59, including six sixes and five fours. Contributions from Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, and Kamindu Mendis sealed the win.
