Vokkaliga outfit questions relevance of 10-year-old caste survey in Karnataka

Terming the Socio Economic and Educational Survey, popularly known as caste census, as an ‘unscientific’ document, the Bengaluru North Taluk Vokkaligara Sangha has opposed implementation of the caste census report by the government of Karnataka.

Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on April 15, president of the Publicity Committee of Bengaluru North Taluk Vokkaligara Sangha M. N. Pillappa cautioned the government of Karnataka against ‘hurriedly’ implementing the report, as there are a lot of ‘loopholes’ in it.

As the survey was conducted in 2015 and a lot of economic and social changes had taken place during the last 10 years, he said the caste census report prepared by the then chairperson of Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission H. Kantharaju is not relevant any more.

A lot of time is needed to read, study and fully comprehend the contents of the voluminous report, which was accepted recently 10 years after it was commissioned, he said. Apart from leaders of Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities, even experts had cautioned the government of Karnataka against accepting the ‘outdated’ report, he said.

He urged the State Government to conduct a fresh Socio, Economic and Educational Survey.
