As Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canadian products came into effect on Saturday (local time), the move did not go down well with the hockey fans of the North American country as they booed the US national anthem during a Senators game.

The video of the incident surfaced on social media, showing Ottawa-based singer Mandia singing the national anthem and a crowd with nearly 20,000 spectators booing during the performance at the sold-out Canadian Tire Centre.

The moment marked a moment of protest by the Canadians who were slapped with 25% tariffs on their goods, except for the energy supplies on which only 10% tariffs were imposed.

The protest came just hours after US President Donald Trump signed order imposing 25% tariffs on Canada, Mexico and 10% on China.

He backed his move by citing the ongoing fentanyl crisis and illegal immigration. He made it clear that the tariffs would remain in effect until the situation was resolved.
