Reacting to the Lokayukta Police giving a clean chit to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his wife, and two others pertaining to the case of alleged irregularities in the allotment of compensatory sites by the MUDA, Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa on Thursday said it was nothing but a “political conspiracy” to defame the Chief Minister and his family members.

“We knew that the Chief Minister would come clean as he had done nothing wrong,” said Mr. Mahadevappa.

With the sole aim of destabilising the government and defaming the Congress party, the Centre and the BJP in the State hatched the “conspiracy”, projecting the alleged case, despite knowing that there was no violation of law and no use of political powers. “I had said this in the beginning and my reasoning has come true. At least now the Opposition must stop the false propaganda against the Chief Minister,” he said.

He said not to defame leaders for political reasons when there is no wrongdoing.

When asked about the padayatra from Bengaluru to Mysuru by the coalition partners demanding the Chief Minister’s resignation, he said the leaders of the coalition partners have to question their conscience. The Opposition made every effort to destabilise the government. When there is no violation of law and political interference, what would they expect from the probe, said Mr. Mahadevappa.

Accusing the BJP and the JD-S of using the alleged MUDA case to attack the CM and pressure him to step down, he said they tried to shake the CM’s chair but nothing could be achieved as Mr. Siddaramaiah has emerged stronger since his conscience was strong.

Asked whether Mr. Siddaramaiah would continue as the Chief Minister over the speculations, the Minister said there is no question of changing the Chief Minister. The party MLAs have elected him as the leader, reposing faith in him. The party’s high command has backed Mr. Siddaramaiah, he said.
