Who is Lois Boisson, the French Open 2025 wildcard entrant facing Coco Gauff in the semifinal?

Lois Boisson, the No. 361st-ranked French Open 2025 wildcard entrant, has taken the tennis world by storm after beating World No. 6 Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinal on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old will face World No. 2 Coco Gauff in the Roland Garros semifinal, making her the first Frenchwoman to reach the tournament’s semifinals since Marion Bartoli in 2011.

Lois Boisson career trajectory

Boisson made her WTA Tour debut in 2021 at the Lyon Open, receiving a wildcard into the doubles main draw, partnering Juline Fayard. She won her first WTA 125 title in 2024 in Saint-Malo, defeating Chloe Paquet in three sets in the final, and entered the top 200 as a result.

However, Boisson hit a roadblock later that year, missing out on a main draw debut at the French Open after tearing her ACL.

At this year’s French Open, she was handed a wildcard entry, recording her first wins, defeating 24th seed Elise Mertens, world No. 3 and third seed Jessica Pegula, and former semifinalist Andreeva. As a result, she moved 240 positions up to a new career-high in the top 125 in the live WTA singles rankings.

Boisson was the first woman to make the quarterfinals in her main-draw debut since Carla Suarez Navarro made the last eight in 2008 as a qualifier. She also became the lowest-ranked semifinalist at Roland Garros in nearly 40 years and the lowest at any major since 2017 (No. 418 Kanepi at the US Open).

By reaching the semifinals of the tournament, she will be making her debut in the top 100, with her live ranking being at No. 65, surpassing her former peak of No. 152. She will also be the new French No. 1.
