Yadgir farmers bring 27,647 ha under rabi cultivation as sowing resumes

Sowing for the rabi season in Yadgir district has been revived and it is expected that the area that has been targeted will be covered by the second week of December.

According to information provided by the Agriculture Department, sowing has been completed in 27,647 hectares (55.39%) against the targeted area of 49,909 hectares.

Jowar, which is the main crop for the rabi season, has been sown in 9,059 hectares (39.66%) against the targeted area of 22,842 hectares.

Groundnut sowing has been completed in 16,461 hectares (80.30%) against the targeted area of 20,500 hectares.

Bengal gram has been sown in 1,723 hectares against the targeted area of 2,764 hectares, taking the overall coverage to 55.39%.

Farmers suffered almost all through the kharif season due to heavy rain and floods. But they hope that they will get a good yield, particularly of jowar and groundnut, during the rabi season and manage to recover half of their loss.

The taluk-wise targeted area and the area covered so far are as follows: Shahapur 8,294 hectares (4,778 hectares, 57.61%), Wadagera 6,641 hectares (3,707 hectares, 55.82%), Surpur (Shorapur) 8,754 hectares (1,589 hectares, 18.15%), Hunsagi 6,580 hectares (1,668 hectares, 25.35%), Yadgir 11,473 hectares (9,605 hectares, 83.72%) and Gurmitkal 8,167 hectares (6,299 hectares, 77.12%).
